A supportive learning environment is the first step to student success. Classrooms should be safe spaces for our students to fully explore their creative potential. Additionally, it should be a goal of every teacher to develop a community of support between their students. When this happens, students will feel safe to express themselves and truly grow. One way to do this is to introduce team building exercises and activities within lesson plans. When developing my lessons, I try to do this by incorporating team music exercises where the students can collaborate to develop a creative work or performance. I also believe that technology is key in a modern classroom. Students of this generation are constantly exposed to it, therefore it should be a goal of ours as educators to include it to some degree in our classrooms. By doing so, we are making our lessons more relevant to the students. One such program that is entertaining but also yields educational value is garage band. With it, students can create their own compositions with simplicity, which is a fun and entertaining activity. There are many other ways to incorporate technology in the classroom. If we make the effort to make our lessons relevant to the students, then I believe that they will be more motivated to participate and excel in our lessons.
