Multiple means of assessment are necessary to fully ensure student learning, as well as accurate feedback. I have learned of many different methods to measure learning throughout my college career. Through combinations of teacher, peer, and self assessment, students can effectively learn from the feedback provided and then improve for the future. An example of teacher feedback would be an educator grading composition assignments based on a set criteria, described in a rubric. Peer assessment could be informal, such as students singing to one another in choir and then giving constructive feedback. Self-assessment is, in my opinion, the most valuable kind of feedback. With this, students can learn to correct their own mistakes and improve upon them. One good technique for students to use in music is to record performances of themselves and then rewatch the videos to understand their habits and mistakes. With the proper feedback, I believe that we can help our students grow in their musicianship and learn from their previous attempts.
